An Iowa Stop August 18-20, 2014

There was a severe thunderstorm warning during our last evening at Bassett, NE. Lots of lightning and thunder. The clouds looked pretty threatening.

I parked my truck under a big tree just in case we got big hail.

And look what I found just a little ways from our RV.

First time I have seen one of these. Just in case...

Well, the storm passed and we never had any issues.

On to Iowa.

We were on the road by 9:15AM. The plan was to go 174 miles to a Flying J in Sioux City, IA for just overnight.

As we entered Iowa.

We decided to go a bit farther to Le Mars where there was a Walmart. That would be better than parking by big trucks.

Then we saw another possibility just a little further up the road in Orange City, IA. A city park with full hookups for just $10.00.

Lets continue on and check it out.

We found the Orange City Veterans Park. And what a great park it is. A 233 mile day. Glad we passed up some parking lot camping for this.

Full hookups w/50 amp

level concrete pad and nice table

beside a nice city park

in a nice neighborhood

we can stay as long as we want

 And geocaches nearby too!

Donna and I got our bikes out and rode around the area.

We found our Iowa geocache. We have accumulated quite a few 'badges'.
Enjoying Iowa.

Since heading East from the Tulalip Casino just north of Everett, WA on July 28, we have traveled 2,105 miles. We have stopped and set up camp 11 times. Averaging just a little more than 2 days per stop. A fast pace, but now too bad. We will slow down when we hit Illinois.

And yesterday, I got 13.5 miles per gallon too!

  1. Awesome! Those clouds look amazing and scary!. How convenient to have a little shelter nearby 8-) That little park looked like a great place to spend a couple days. Geocaches too? Travel on!
