A Visit To Oatman, AZ

Donna's brother, Gene, took us to the little town of Oatman, AZ. It is only 17 miles away from our park, but it was a trip back in history.

Oatman is located on historic Route 66. Founded in 1906, it was a mining town back in the day. Now it is teeming with touristy shops, gun fighters, and burros.

This town seems really remote. Located in a hilly, desert area, quite beautiful setting for a wild western town.

Lots of cool western type gift shops and such.

We are always on the lookout for some photo ops.

The town has lots of wandering burros. They love tourists. They say these are remnants of the miners that mined gold here.

We watched a gunfight here.

The Shriners stage an old west gunfight. They have raised over $72,000.00 for their charity just this year. It was fun.

Donna with the 'cowboys'.

We spent half the day just wondering around town. Here is Gene and Donna strolling the wooden sidewalks, by the 'sheriff'.

We visited a candy shop. Donna found some of her old favorites...walnettos.

Later, Donna fed a couple of burros, and one started following her. The burro thought she must have some more carrots in that little white bag.......the one with the Walnettos in it.

The burro sneaked in while Donna was rubbing her ears, and bit the bag. No carrots...but Walnettos went everywhere. Too funny!

We went into the Oatman Hotel.

This is where Clark Gable and Carole Lombard had their honeymoon. Cool!

There was a bar here that patrons would sign and hang a dollar on the wall.

Or on the ceiling.

Pretty crazy!

We saw a stagecoach giving tourists a ride.

And Donna even found, and went into an old mine.

A good day,... in the wild west.
