After two days at the Oaks at Point South in South Carolina, we were off to another Thousand Trails park on the west side of South Carolina 259 miles away. We drove on some of the worst roads along the way. Interstate 95 in SC was really bad. Giant potholes and cracks were everywhere. But we finally made it to the Carolina Landing RV Campground near Fair Play, SC. We were just 5 miles from the Georgia state line.

We just did a couple of days here, then we headed into Georgia.
Our next stop was another two days stop at Red Top Mountain State Park near Acworth, GA. This State Park is one of the nicest we have stayed in. FHU for $41.00 and a great 'woodsy' feel.

Some more pictures of the park.
I picked this stop because it was close to Cartersville, GA. In my early years in the Army, I went to the US Army Signal School in Fort Monmouth, NJ and one of the students I went to school with there, was from Cartersville. I found him on Facebook, had to stop by to visit with him. Jack Hornbuckle and I were also stationed together at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque from 1971 to 1973. Yep...Haven't seen him for 50 years!
We met up at Chick Fil A and did some great catching up.
Jack & I.
It was great to get to see him again and remember back a bunch of years. Wow! Those were the days!
After our stay in Georgia, we were off and headed to Huntsville, AL.
The road actually took us into TN,
back into GA,
into TN again,
then finally into Alabama.
A 185 mile trip.
In my Army days, we were stationed at Redstone Arsenal at Huntsville, 1976-1977, and 1982-1984. We are staying at the US Space & Rocket Center RV Park. FHU for $30.75 a night. We will be here for 4 days.

Our first day here, we went over to the US Space & Rocket Center and went through the Rocket Park and museum. It was pretty cool, especially the Saturn 5 rocket. It has really changed since we were here in 1976.
Some pictures. Sorry for the large number of pictures, but it was sooo cool!
The next day we had severe thunderstorms all night. There were Tornado warnings, and it was kinda freaky! We had our cat carrier ready for Lucy and we were ready to bug out to the brick restrooms if necessary. We were in the warning area, but the two tornados that came were to the east and north of us. Lots of thunder, lightning, and rain tho.
Still a couple of days to go here.
The Fergs out .......
Very cool that you were able to meet up with your buddy after all those years. Loved the pictures of the rocket museum, we will have to check it out next time we are in that area.
