Happy Thanksgiving from South Texas - Harlingen, TX - November 24, 2022

 After two nights at Malaquite Campground, without cell service/internet, we moved to another spot. I found an RPI park just 70 miles away. It was just north of Corpus Christi. With the cold front that moved in, and better cell service, we moved to the Bay View RV Resort in Rockport. The RPI price per night is just $10.00, but the RV park added a $10.00 per night surcharge. Oh well, This is a good place to be at $20.00 per night. We will do 6 days here.

We are still finding cool places to visit in the Corpus Christie/Port Aransas, Padre Island area.

It was cold and rainy almost all the time here. I wanted to get back into Corpus Christi and visit the USS Lexington aircraft carrier, but the weather wouldn't cooperate. 

Then it was time to move on, just as the rain stopped and the sun finally came out. OK, a good travel day.

We headed south another 173 miles and arrived in Harlingen, TX. We are staying at the Tropic Winds RV Resort. It is one of our membership parks so our stay is free for the next 2 weeks.  There is a big section for the Thousand Trails members. I was surprised that there weren't more snowbirds already down here.

Happy Thanksgiving to all! We are going to a big Thanksgiving dinner here at the park at 2 PM.

San Antonio to Padre Island- Malaquite Campground - Padre Island National Seashore, TX - November 16, 2022

 We left Lake Tawakoni Campground, we headed south for 206 miles to the Elks Lodge in Temple, TX. They have 2 RV parking spaces with FHU and just want $20.00 per night to stay there. But we came in on a Tuesday and they are closed on Tuesdays. We just boondocked in their big parking lot leaving the 2 spaces with hookups vacant in case another RV showed up. 

We had the place to ourselves, and our stay was free too...cool.

The next day, we headed south again to a Thousand Trails park, Medina Lake Campground, just 180 miles away. We found a nice spot to park and planned on staying here a week and visit the San Antonio area and see an old Army buddy of mine.

This place is really wooded and there are many deer here. They will even eat right out of your hands too.

We headed into San Antonio one day and parked in the Alamo touristy area. We had been here before, but it was nice going through it again on a nice weather day. The cold and rain were expected soon.

Then we walked around the area and dropped into the San Antonio Riverwalk. This is a pretty cool area. A must see when here in San Antonio. 

We jumped onto a Riverwalk cruise tour. It was fun and very informative.

Then we worked our way back to the truck,

and headed back to our campground.

Another day, we headed into San Antonio to the Cornerstone church there, because Orlando Dona, my Army buddy we first met while stationed in Germany from 1978 - 1981. He was a Private in the Army when we knew him, but then he went into the Air Force as an officer and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Crazy huh?

He was the guest speaker at a Veteran's Day Memorial Service at the church. He did an amazing job of reminding us veterans of our continued duty to our country.

The next day was a Sunday, and we attended the church services at Cornerstone Church here in San Antonio. The Reverend John Hagee was at the pulpit and it was pretty awesome. We had never been to a mega-church before. Our friend Orlando was singing in the choir too. It was great.

Afterward, we all went to Starbucks and enjoyed our reminiscing.

We left Medina Lake Campground and continued south another 276 miles into the Corpus Christie area. At first we headed into the Mustang Island area and setup on the beach there. Then realized that high tide may present us a problem. 

Then we saw the 'No Camping' signs and moved onto plan B.

Padre Island National Seashore was just down the road and there was the Malaquite Campground there. We headed there and got setup. Boondocking for just $7.00 with Senior pass. 

We also explored the area and saw many other opportunities to boondock for free on the Gulf shoreline.

Another day, we headed into Corpus Christie and went to the Selena Memorial. It is right on the water front, and there is an Aircraft carrier nearby too.

We will be in this area for a week or so..
