Seaside, OR and on to Vancouver, WA

Tuesday, Apr 1, we explored the area around Seaside. As we left the park, there were a couple of goofy looking RVs that were asking for their picture to be taken.  First is a cute little A frame mini pod.

And the other a pop up hard shell travel trailer.

There are sure all types and shape RVs out there.

A dozen miles north, we visited Fort Stevens State Park. First on the list was to see the old sea wreck of the Peter Iredale, a large sailing ship that ran aground back in 1906. Just a skelton now.

Pretty cool.

One of the most photographed sites along the Oregon coast.

Here is a good shot.

The sea has really eaten her up.

That's me out there.

Then we stopped by the Russell Battery, an old defensive cannon site used to protect the US in service 1904 to 1944.

The big guns are gone now, but they did their job all those years.

The guns must have been huge.

The bunkers look like dungeons now.

Then to the site of old Fort Stevens. The Fort is pretty much gone now, but there is a museum there. Lots of history in this area.

Then on to Fort Clatsop at the Lewis & Clark National Historic Park.

Built by Lewis & Clark's expedition to winter in 1806 - 1808.

Donna getting our Passport book stamped.

We watched the movie, toured the museum, and headed for the Fort.

Sacajawea.

Back to Seaside, I walked along the Promenade, which is kinda like the boardwalk on the east coast. Then along Broadway, which is lined with all kinds of touristy shops.

At the end of Broadway, is the Turn-around, and a statue of Lewis & Clark.

Wednesday, we moved northward again. we drove through Astoria, and along Hwy 30 to Longview, WA. The to I5 and South into Vancouver, WA. A 110 mile move.

We pulled into the Vancouver Elks Lodge and paid our $15.00 a day for our nice 30 amp and water hookups.

We stayed here last September.

Our daughter Kim drove down from Pasco, WA and we got to visit with her and Candy, our eldest daughter who lives here in Vancouver.

We will be here for 5 days.

  1. Just had to tell you that our son lives in Vancouver! Not for much longer as the Army is moving him to Salt Lake City.

  2. Hey - what's wrong with the A frame trailer?? LOL, that was our first step up from tent camping, had one for 8 years for weekends & vacations and loved it. Wouldn't work for full time, but was a fun getaway rig.

Have fun in WA, we won't be back there until June.
