After a 109 mile drive from Yuma, we arrived at the Painted Rock Petroglyph BLM Campground near Gila Bend, AZ. This was to be the first stop on our Eastward trip toward Florida. This campground is just 11 miles off Interstate 8 and is a really nice place. We chose a nice pull through site and got setup.
They charge $8.00 per night, and with our Access pass, we just paid $4.00. What a bargain for this awesome boondocking spot.
We stuck our check into the iron maiden and walked around the place. There is a lot of history here. Many petroglyphs on the rocky mound here.
This was a really nice stopping spot for us. We could easily spend a couple of weeks here.
Tuesday, February 1st, we headed Eastward to the Escapees park near Casa Grande. Just an 80 mile drive, but close enough to touch bases with our friends Bev & Tim, who we were going to travel to Florida with. The only spots available were boondocking spaces, which were fine with us.
Here is some pictures of Rovers Roost, the Escapees park we were staying at.
We were going to just stay here 3 nights and head out toward Florida. Our first stop would have been Deming, NM.
While here, we met Bev & Tim in Mesa at the Organ Stop Pizza place. This is such a cool place. Not only good pizza and beer, but the entertainment (organ) is definitely worth it.

While there, we discussed our travel plans with Bev & Tim. There was a cold, stormy front passing through our travel path and we had to consider the ramifications.
Our next stop would have been Deming, NM and it was going to get down to 14 degrees that night. Then on to Van Horn, TX and again into the teens at night. After that, Junction, TX and San Antonio. The weather was not co-operating with us. So we thought, maybe wait 3 days and then head out.
Unfortunately, we had some firm plans that we had made in the Yuma area after this Florida trip. Our son is flying down to Yuma and we have a U-Haul truck reserved to move our storage unit up to Washington. This delay is messing up our whole Florida trip. After long thought, we decided to postpone this Eastward trip and hang around Arizona till we could get our mini-storage moved up north. Bev & Tim will still head toward Florida, and we will spend the rest of the winter in and around Arizona.
We extended 3 more days here at the Rovers Roost Escapees Park.
There is always tomorrow...
Since we are boondocking, we needed some more water for our fresh water tank. The dump station and a fresh water supply was just a little ways from our spot here. I picked up a 7 gallon water container from Walmart, and a really neat little pump too. I made 3 trips with my truck to the dump station (and fresh water) and pumped it into our fresh water tank. With just a couple of D cell batteries to power the pump, I put a third of a tank in our rig. That's all we needed. To transfer 7 gallons into our fresh water tank took only 2 minutes. Not too bad for a $10.00 pump at Walmart.
So in the morning, we are headed back towards the Yuma area.
We will be killing time till our son flies down here to help us move our stuff up to Washington.
The Fergs out .......
You have a long row to hoe on your way east, safe travels!
