It was at Peace River RV Park, that I thought....maybe... I might just possibly need a haircut. So Donna gave me a trim.
to this...
Finally, after staying at Peace River, I saw an alligator.
It was on my daily walk around the park and along the Peace River. Just a little 3 to 4 foot fella. First one since traveling through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. (More to come!)
We stayed there for 2 weeks and then continued south again. Our next stop was 193 miles and I could only reserve 1 night at the Miami Everglades RV Resort, so it would have to do. We checked in and got setup,
and immediately headed into Miami with the intention to drive through and check-out Miami, Miami Beach, South Beach and the famous art-deco district. Here are some pictures of that trip into chaos...
Driving our 1 ton dually was crazy. The lanes were really narrow, crazy Florida drivers, red light cameras, and lots happening around us. I maneuvered through the traffic, and Donna took pictures. Man! there are giant hi-rise condos everywhere. A very nice waterfront for the cruise ships, and South Beach had plenty of touristy shops and cafes. We saw the Atlantic Ocean and beaches, but found no parking spaces, so it was 'Plot a course for home' time. The 30 miles to Miami Beach ended with a hectic 4 hours behind the wheel. Glad we went and saw the sights.... glad to be home again.
Then before we moved on from our 1 night stay, we did walk around the lake and take some pictures.
Then it was on to a campground in the Big Cypress National Preserve just 63 miles west. We are now at the Monument Lake Campground. We will be here for 6 nights boondocking around Monument Lake.
It is a nice .65 mile walk around the lake. And I saw 1 alligator so far...cool
The next day we drove a few miles east of us to the Big Cypress National Preserve Visitors Center, got our National Park Passport stamped, and saw lots of gators.
It sure is peaceful and quiet here. Looking forward to the night Skys, the Everglades, an airboat ride, and a drive down to Key West from here.
The Fergs out .......
I can't imagine driving a DRW truck through South Beach, we did it in a rental car a few years back. It seems like a different world than our normal US locations, fun to see, but not some place we want to spend a lot of time.
