Christmas in Texas - Colorado River RV Campground - Columbus, TX - December 29, 2022

After our 4 days at the Harlingen Elks, we still had to be out of the Thousand Trails Collection system for 3 more days, so we went to the Elks lodge in McAllen, TX. They have a big grassy field in back with 30/50 electrical hookups for 2 RVs. We arrived and there was 1 RV already there. The lodge was closed and for the next 3 days, I tried to find the place open, but it was closed the entire time we were there. Oh well, free camping, I guess.

Here is our rig there.

Now we didn't do too much for the next couple of weeks, because I somehow got Covid. I tested positive on December 12th. I only felt like crap for 1 day (slept a lot). But we pretty much just quarantined ourselves.

We did move on to the Southern Comfort RV Resort in Weslaco on the 14th. We got parked,

and just stayed away from everyone. Donna tested positive for Covid on the 16th. I was really thankful that our cases were mild for us. We are vaxxed & boosted. We originally signed up for the Christmas dinner at the park but decided we would continue to Q ourselves. Here is our parking place for our 2 weeks stay here.

We did have a nice Christmas together. We talked (or videoed) with our kids and grandkids. and we were feeling much better. We hope you all had a good one as well.

After our 2 weeks at this park, it was time to move on. Our plans going forward is to travel and see new places.

Yesterday, the 28th, we moved 317 miles north to a Thousand Trails park, Colorado River RV Campground, along Interstate 10.

Here is our site. Last time we were here, was February 2016.

Just 2 days here, and we will move on to new (to us) areas.

Harlingen Elks Lodge # 1889, A Great Deal - Harlingen, TX - December 10, 2022

After our 2 week stay at the Tropic Winds RV Resort, we had to find a place to stay, out of the Thousand Trails - Trails Collection system, for a week. No problem, there are many options down here. We are staying at the Trails Collection Encore resorts because we can stay 2 weeks at a time for free. With a week out of the system in between. We are definitely getting our money's worth out of our membership. It was $330.00 to add the Trails Collection to our Thousand Trails membership for a year. We have stayed 99 nights at our Trails Collection resorts so far this year.

Right now, we are at the Harlingen Elks Lodge # 1889.

A place to boondock is right next to the Lodge.

RV parking in back with hookups.

There is a pool here and a dump station.

Here we are.

We have 30 amp power and water, and there is a dump station here as well. Four other RVs around us appear to be stored here. We are paying just $12.00 a night. What a bargain!

We have been spending our time here visiting the local parks and walking their walking/biking trails. It has been in the 80s every day. Great weather.

One day, we drove down to see the Brownsville area. We didn't see a lot in town, but just outside of town, we saw the old battlefield site where they had the last engagement of the North & South troops during the Civil War. I had no idea that it was going on in this area.

And just down the road from that, along the Gulf of Mexico along the US/Mexico border, was Stargate. This is a SpaceX facility where Elon Musk's company builds rockets and launches them. There is a tracking station there also. Really cool.

And now some of our RV Christmas décor (and Lucy).

We will just do 4 days here, then we will head to McAllen for awhile.

Tropic Winds RV Resort - Harlingen, TX - December 2, 2022

Our 2 weeks here at Tropic Winds RV Resort is going fast. The Thanksgiving dinner we went to here at the park was really good. There was lots of people that showed up, and lots of good food too!

One day, we left Lucy at home...

and went into Harlingen to the Iwo Jima Memorial. It was right next to the Marine Corps Military Acadamy and a Marine Corp Museum. The memorial statue is huge.

Then we continued on to South Padre Island. In Port Isabel, was the Port Isabel Lighthouse.

We paid our small entrance fee and climbed the 75 steps to the top.

There was a great view of the area from up there.

Then we walked around the dock area checking out the touristy stuff.

Then we drove across the big Queen Isabella Bridge and went to Isla Blanca Park. We walked all over, stopped and saw the Jesus Christ of the Fisherman Statue.

We even took off our shoes and got our feet wet in the Gulf waters.

Had a really great day, but was time to head back to the RV.

I will close here with a few pictures I took while walking around this park.
