Visalia, CA & on to Lake of the Springs TT - Oregon House, CA - March 17, 2017

We left Soledad Canyon before the heat of the day, around 8:30 AM. We headed north on Highway 14 through Palmdale and Lancaster, towards Mojove. This turned out to be a great route. There was a few gradual hills and good roads, much better than the Grapevine on I-5.

At Mojove, we headed west on Highway 58 towards Bakersfield. We gassed up in Tahachapi at the Love's station for $2.69. This last tankfull, we got 6.2 mpg. Not too bad... normal!

As we went down the big Tahachapi Pass hill, we passed by the spot that our truck died back in 2013, less that 1 month of hitting the road full time. Ahh, the memories!

We were going to stop and spend the night at Camping World in Bakersfield, but it was early, so on we went, to Visalia on Highway 99. We have stayed at the Elks lodge in Visalia a couple of times, but our good friends, Nancy & Steve, who we met through the Christian Fellowship BoF group, said we could moochdock at their place on the east side of Visalia.

Pretty cool! We parked on their concrete pad and connected to their 50 amp and water. There was even a sewer hookup right beside the pad. This was perfect since the temps were mid 80s and we got to use our ACs.

While here in town. I got the oil changed in the Jeep, and Donna contacted her cousin Louise, who lives nearby. She came over and we spent the next day with her. They instantly re-bonded and talked about everything. We hadn't seen her since 1998. We all had a great time and went out to lunch at the Black Bear Diner.

I had seen an external cat enclosure that attaches to the RV window while we were in Palm Springs and I wanted to build one for our fur babies. While in Visalia, and after a few trips to Home Depot, I got it done.

And yes, they like it!

A good day for Tinkerbelle and Rumble Bunny..... and us too!

After 2 nights in Visalia, we had reservations at the Lake of the Springs Thousand Trails campground in Oregon House, CA. It is just 20 some miles from Oroville where 2 of Donna's brothers live. We will be here 4 days and will get to visit with them.

It was a longer travel day than normal, 283 miles. But we got to the park before 2 PM and got parked in the B section. We have 30 amps and water, and it is really wooded in our area. It is nice to be in a 'State Park' type area for a change instead of the 'Parking Lot' type parks.

We have a nice, quiet, secluded area just behind our rig for our chairs and propane campfire. We have to travel up to higher ground, or the Lodge area to access cell service and Internet, but we will live. The weather is great here, mid 70s during the day, high 40s at night.

A good place to be.

Fergs ..... out!
