Running Ahead of the Storm - Los Banos, CA - October 14, 2016

We left the Bend, OR area knowing that we will be back again. There is much more to do in this area. There was a big 3 day storm heading into the Pacific Northwest and we wanted to head south and out run it if possible.

California!

We did hit some crazy side winds just north of Weed, CA. It was a bit stressful, but only lasted for about 20 miles.

Once on Interstate 5, the winds died down and we extended our stop for the day from the Redding Elks to the Red Bluff Elks Lodge.

As soon as we got setup, we headed up the road to see the Lassen Volcanic National park. If we are this close, we gotta go see it.

It was a good stop. Just $15.00 for 30 amp and water. Our neighbor said the big storm was hitting tomorrow. We mentally prepared to stay here for 3 days.

The next morning, the rain stopped and the wind died down. So we decided to try to out run the storm. It we could just get further south, below the San Francisco area.

We hit the storm while going through Sacremento. Thankfully there was no wind, but the rain was really comming down. I white-knuckled it through the rain and traffic for about 35 miles. Finally, we were south of the storm.

Our stop for the night was the parking lot at Walmart in Los Banos, CA.

It was an uneventful evening. Just glad to have made it through the storm. Tomorrow, it is on to Santa Barbara.
