Colorado River RV Campground, Columbus, TX - February 9-10, 2016

Tuesday, Feb 9th, was our daughter Candy's birthday. Fourty two years ago, Donna delivered her in Wenatchee, Washington while I was going to college. I was getting my AAA in Forestry Technology, living on my GI Bill as our only income.

Tough times ... but good times. So many years ago.

Fast forward to today.

Living the good life traveling where ever the winds blows. Good times indeed!

We are at Colorado River RV Campground, a Thousand Trails park along the Colorado River just west of Houston. This is another really nice TT park. Some are really run down, or set up like parking lots. Not this one. We plan on doing 6 days here. This is the second one we have visited in Texas and we have another good one.

Here are my pictures of this place.

The entrance and guard shack.

A nice big activity center.

Pool and enclosed hot tub ... yes!

Wide open spaces. Lots of pecan trees here.

A nice mini golf. No rotten wood here. Outdoor carpet on concrete. Last place I shot a 48. So far I have a 49. I need more practice..LOL.

Hey! There is our 'street'.

There we are.

Buzzards, looking for something dear I guess.

The Colorado River.

So far, we have seen deer, squirrels, & buzzards. There is supposed to be armadillos here also. Maybe we will catch one of those later.

Stay tuned....

San Antonio - Medina Lake RV Resort - February 3-8, 2016

We just finished our week at the Thousand Trails park just outside of San Antonio. We spent one full day in San Antonio seeing the sights. That is of course not long enough. We will come back next year though.

The first stop was the Downtown area. We drove by the Riverwalk, but started at the Alamo.

Then we took a Trolley tour around the San Antonio area. We visited Hemisfair Park and the Tower of Americas's, the home of the 1968 World's Fair, Missions San Jose and Concepcion. Through the King William District and Plaza De Las Islas. Several cathedrals and shopping areas.

We saw the Riverwalk, but we will wait till next time to explore it the way it deserves.

A different tour bus.

Lots to see in San Antonio.

While we were here, we had our mail sent to us and I received some good news from the VA. I have been approved to receive VA health care! That's pretty cool .... I think. We will see. It is nice to know that I get to have a little more benefits after serving 10 years in the Army.

And we were continually surrounded by White Tailed Deer. Millions of them! All around us.

Rumble Bunny kept busy.

And so did Tinker Belle.

They kept watch for us.

All that deer watching can make you tired.

And on our last day here, Sunday, we headed toward New Braunfels and went to the Highpoint Church there.

My old Army buddy and good friend, Orlando Dona (OJ), goes there. And since we were so close, we figured we would surprise him.

And boy, we sure did! He was in shock. We had last seen each other 35 years ago in Germany. I met him as a Private there, and he ended up retiring from the Air Force as a Lt. Colonel.

The church, an Aysembly of God was good too. Afterward, we had lunch at the Texas Roadhouse, explored New Braunfels, then went to OJ's house for the Superbowl and dinner.  He is such a great friend. We spent some time catching up.

OJ and Patricia (Trish)

Me and my buddy.

Good times.

Next year, we will spend a lot more time in this area.

We packed up and traveled east on Interstate 10 for 166 miles. We just checked into Colorado River RV Campground. This is also a Thousand Trails park. We plan to do 6 days here.

I'll post pictures of this place on the next update....

Medina Lake RV Resort - February 1-2, 2016

We gassed up as we left Fort Stockton. Regular gas was $1.69 (Shell station) and I ran the numbers from our last fill-up and I got 7.61 MPG. That's the best yet. I guess the tail wind helped.

We traveled Interstate 10 for 300 miles. First half, no problem. The last half, the wind kicked up. It gusted from the side of us. I white-knuckled it to our destination park.

We are now in the Medina Lake RV Resort, a Thousand Trails park just southwest of San Antonio.
We arrived around 2 PM.

And got parked and setup.

Here are some pics of this place. We are going to be here for a week.

The pool area .. and it's open too!

Nice big Activity Center.

Mini golf.

Medina Lake

And lots of these guys all over the place.

This is the 32nd Thousand Trails parks we have stayed at so far, out of 60 parks that belong to our membership. This is a good one. It ranks as one of the top 2 so far.

We will be exploring the area soon...
