A Trip To Niagara Falls - September 1, 2014

We decided instead of moving the RV into Pennsylvania for 1 overnight (probably in Walmart) and then to a RV park in the Niagara, NY area, we would make Niagara Falls a day trip. Of course, we wouldn't be able to count PA and NY as states we have RV overnighted in. We will pick these up on our next trip through.

The trip was 160 miles or so each way. We left at 5 AM to get a start to the busy day, and to miss traffic in Erie, PA and Buffalo, NY. The drive was nice. I did notice gas prices jumped from $3.74 in OH to $4.19 and more in PA and NY.

The first stop was to Lake Ontario. Our second of the Great Lakes. We stopped at Wilson, NY and did some picture taking.

Then drove along the lake to Fort Niagara State Park. It is along the Niagara River and Lake Ontario. You could see the Toronto skyline across the lake....on a clear day. Not today though. It was an old Fort used during the war of 1812. Across the river was another Fort where the British in CA came across to do battle with us. There is a history center, lighthouse, cemetery and lots of history there.

We then drove southward to the Niagara Falls area. There are some incredibly restored grand old houses along the way.

We parked at a big touristy type building/parking lot. $10.00 for all day.

They really wanted us to buy all kinds of 'tours' from them. We walked out on a giant viewing platform/tower and the sight was breathtaking.

This is the Rainbow Bridge that goes over to the Canadian side.

This is looking down the 200 feet to the loading area for the 'Maid Of The Mist' tour.

We had to do this. We even got these complimentary cool attractive rain suits to wear.

We are going to go right below the falls, into the mist....

There are tours like this from the Canadian side. The Hornblower Tours. They all wear red gear.

It was sooo much fun. We saw the falls from water level. In the mist...OK it was really like a typhoon! I kept my camera under my 'suit' and had to take off my glasses. It was incredible. Fun! Fun! Fun! People were whooping and cheering. Awesome!

Yeah, we got a bit wet. But oh, what a great time.

Then we headed for the Rainbow Bridge and walked into Canada. Took a few shots from the bridge.

We had lunch at the Secret Garden Restaurant overlooking the falls. It was our 40th anniversary celebration we had planned since we were in Arizona on our anniversary date, Jan 5th.

What a great day with my honey!

The falls from the Canadian side.

Going back across the Rainbow Bridge, we had to use the coin money changing machines, to get some quarters. There was a $0.50 toll to get back across the bridge and back into the US. How goofy is that?

One more shot of the Maid of the Mist and observation tower from the bridge.

What a day!

  2. What a coincidence, the folks parked across from us in a Class A are from Wilson, NY. Happy Anniversary!
