The Sacramento River National Recreation Trail

While in Redding, CA, we had to check out this trail. It is a walking/biking paved trail that is 19 miles long from the Shasta Dam to the Sundial Bridge. The trail goes right beside the Elks Lodge where we are parked.

We unloaded our bikes, got some water and our camera, and decided to head towards the Sundial Bridge that we have heard much about.

Off we go...

There were several bridges that we went under.

Redding has kept this trail maintained very well.

We looked for some fish at this dam, not saw none.

Then the giant Sundial Bridge came into view. It is massive. 700 feet across the river. 217 feet tall. This thing even works. It will tell the time (via the shadow) at certain times of the year. One side connects to the Turtle Bay Exploration Park with cool museums and stuff. We stopped at the gift shop and had a coffee.

I had to really back up to get a pic of the top.

We sat at one of the many benches to watch the river go by....and people watch too.

Looking straight up....cool!

The surface lights up at night.

Break time.

And you have to get that crazy photo op!

Smiling.....
