The Olympic National Park...and Vampires!

Our first trip we took while we were here was to Forks, WA. Our daughter, Candy, lived there after graduating from college. Her first job was at the Forks Hospital. She moved back to the Wenatchee area many years ago and we haven't been back to Forks since. But then the Twilight series of books and movies came out. Since the story was set in Forks, the town has gone nuts with souvenir shops and Twilight tours and stuff. So we had to go check it out.

On the way to Forks, we entered the Olympic National Park. These forests out here are really thick. Really green and lush. Pretty awesome. We stopped at the Storm King Ranger Station along Lake Crescent. We picked up some maps, got our passport stamped, and toured the area.

This is the Olympic Peninsula.

Lake Crescent is the second deepest lake in Washington surrounded by lush green mountains.

As we got closer to Forks, we drove by lots of areas that were clear-cut and replanted. This area is famous for the logging industry. Now it is vampires and werewolves.

We arrived in Forks.

It is a small town of only 3,100 people or so.

We went to three different 'Souvenir' shops that were filled with Team Edward, Team Jacob, and all the other Twilight paraphernalia. Here is a pic of Twilight Central.

 

They even offer Twilight tours where you can see Bella's house, the Cullen home, Dr. Cullen's parking spot at the hospital, and all the weird stuff like that.

OK. Back home it is. We were there. We saw it. Read the books, and saw the movies.

At least it was a nice drive....

The Olympic Peninsula - Diamond Point RV Resort

Monday the 23rd, we left the Thousand Trails campground in Silver Creek and headed for Diamond Point RV Resort in Sequim, WA. We took Highway 12 to I-5 and headed north. We passed through Olympia and got on Highway 101. It was a 150 mile drive today and we passed through several small towns along the Hood Canal. The weather was beautiful and the forests were getting thicker. It is pretty and green here in the Olympic National Forest area.

Diamond Point RV Resort is a KM campground 7 miles east of Sequim and right along Discovery Bay. You can look across the Straight of Juan De Fuca and see Vancouver Island.

The campground was easy enough to find.

These KM campgrounds are so much cleaner than the Thousand Trails campgrounds we have been staying in lately. We have memberships in both so our stays are free. Can't beat that!

A mini golf, play grounds, hot tub, the works. Even deer munching here.

We are going to really enjoy the week we will spend here. We want to visit Forks, Port Angeles, Sequim, the Olympic National Park, and Port Townsend while here.

Paradise Resort, Silver Creek, WA

Thursday the 19th, we left the Thousand Trails campground in Monroe for our 148 mile move to another TT campground by Silver Creek. The day before we left, we got together with Bill & Diane (bjoyce on the RV-Dreams forums). Donna made a big pot of chili and we ate and caught up. It was a good visit.

We are in space 157 at Paradise Resort.

It is a pretty nice place. Mount Rainier and Mount Saint Helens are both visible... on a clear day. Good satellite TV reception, but no Verizon service (on our Straight Talk phones). They do have a weak WiFi here.

Mt. Saint Helens in the distance. When the clouds move away, you have a great look at where the side of the mountain blew out. Pretty awesome.

Friday, our daughter Candy and her friend Mike came to visit us here. She lives in Vancouver. They stayed 2 nights with us.

Saturday we all headed to Mt Rainier National Park. We spent all day at the mountain. We visited the visitors center and got our Passport stamped, played in the snow, saw waterfalls, and hiked some trails. We entered through the West entrance and left through the East one. It was quite a beautiful drive. I took lots of pictures. Here are a few. Cameras just never capture the beauty as our eyes do.
